As she battles with mental health issues again, the singer is fighting for her boys
She bravely checked into rehab last week, and while her sons are being cared for by her ex, sources tell Woman’s Day Britney Spears fears this latest setback will mean she could lose her precious boys for good.
The 37-year-old singer entered a mental health facility for 30 days last week, after it was revealed she’s struggling to cope with her dad Jamie’s deteriorating health.
For the past 11 years, Jamie has served as Britney’s conservator, which means he oversees everything in her life including her career, finances and even her lifestyle. Her dad’s illness is believed to be what sent her into an emotional tailspin.
Meanwhile, Britney’s boys, Sean Preston, 13, and Jayden James, 12, are staying with their dad Kevin Federline, which is causing her even more anxiety.
“Britney’s fighting to get better so Kevin will have no reason to demand custody,” says an insider.
Britney’s former husband was previously getting $20,000 a month in child support, but last year the 41-year-old rapper successfully demanded she pay thousands more and contribute $110,000 towards his lawyer’s fees.
“Now her worst fear is Kevin will use the kids as leverage once more,” says the source. “He could accuse her of being an unfit mum.
“She’s receiving treatment and therapy, but she can’t help but be worried,” our source adds. “This is the last thing she needs as her dad fights for his life.”
Jamie, 66, became ill last year and needed two major surgeries to his intestines and colon. Just weeks ago, Britney cancelled her Las Vegas residency after her dad took a turn for the worse.
“With Jamie’s health on the decline, he may not be around to fight for her much longer,” confides our insider.
“It’s really up to Britney now. She has to take responsibility for herself and her family, if she wants to keep her boys.”
