MKR Romel’s breakdown
It’s all too much for one of MKR’S most colourful contestants
This season of My Kitchen Rules has been one of the most explosive to date, with a spate of off-screen hook-ups and some of the series’ biggest villains providing plenty of high-voltage drama.
But while Victor and Piper’s steamy fling momentarily took the heat off Ibby and Romel’s cheating scandal, Woman’s Day can exclusively reveal there was no stopping the Sydney socialites
when it came to doing everything they could to get to the finals!
In telling photos, Ibby, 30, and Romel, 42, can be seen seeking the assistance of a chef as they spent the day speaking to him at Nour, Ibby’s restaurant in Sydney.
According to one onlooker, the duo were spied discussing meals as the chef cooked for them.
It’s believed the pair were taking notes and asking for professional advice ahead of their final
cook-offs, which some claim is contrary to the “rules” of MKR.
“They were taste-testing with the cook and asking a lot of questions,” says the onlooker. “They were taking photos of the dishes, and at one stage Ibby even assisted him in plating a dish.”
Ibby has previously come under fire for having access to professional kitchens and chefs, as it was revealed he is the owner of a range of restaurants and cafes around Sydney.
Now, an exclusive on-set spy tells Woman’s Day that the relentless pressure has become too much for Romel, who broke down while filming his final episodes for the show.
“He had one of the show’s biggest meltdowns, it was crazy,” dishes the spy. “He just stormed off set and was chased by a large camera crew who scrambled to capture it all.”
The insider adds that the growing strain between the cooking partners also played a part in Romel’s breakdown.
“Romel was originally happy to go along with the job cover up for Ibby, and to deflect attention off of them having hospitality experience,” the source reveals. “But it created a toxic environment and I guess Romel felt guilty in the end.”
