-

It should be the happiest time of her life after it was announced Princess Mary had been made regent but as she and Prince Frederick gear up ffor their new roles of f king and queen the pressure is said to becoming all too much.

Palace insiders reveal the once loving pair have slowly been drifting apart, adding that 47-year-old Mary’s upcoming move to Switzerland is less about the kids and their schooling, but more about her ailing marriage and the desperate need for space from Frederik, 51.

ALL TOO MUCH

Last week heartbreaking photos emerged of the Tassie beauty being comforted by her son Prince Christian, 14, at Hermitage Palace. While Mary struggled to hold back tears, Cchristian, sta and later his sister Jojosephine, eight, wrappe wrapped their arms around their distressed mum’s waist. Perha Perhaps most telling was tha that Mary had remove removed her wedding ring, a sign that all is not we well in her marriage. Roya Royal insiders say the weight of becoming regent regent, raising their four ch children and a breakdown in ccommunication between the co couple has led to Mary feeling ovoverwhelmed, unsupported an and desperate for some time out.

“Now she’s been made regent, her workload has become physically impossible. She’s often joking that she wishes she could clone herself,” tells a palace insider. “Fred doesn’t seem to realise how much Mary does and struggles to see why she feels overwhelmed.”

Friends say Mary has really taken on the weight of everything, travelling to places like Texas on her own on behalf of the royal family and doing her best to support Queen Margrethe, who has struggled with health issues.

“Mary is burnt out trying to be everything to everyone, while Fred seems to have an easier ride and it’s not gone unnoticed by his mother, which is causing more tension,” tells a source.

Now royal insiders are saying the real reason for Mary’s move to Switzerland, which will see her join her four children for three months in the country as they start at Lemania-verbier International School, is to see if a trial separation can help get their marriage back on track.

“Anyone can see what’s going on with Mary’s escape to Switzerland. And Margrethe is very aware Mary has been left to do a lot of the hard work and is struggling.”

The source adds, “Mary’s absolutely exhausted. She wants to use this time as a hiatus from both work and her husband. The only thing that keeps her going right now are her kids and while they’re aware their mum isn’t happy, she’s determined to keep them out of her marital issues.

“She just hopes the break eak helps Fred realise how much strain their marriage is under.” nder.”
