After a string of dates, the pair have taken it to the next level
Stepping out onto the streets of New York, a glowing Katie Holmes radiated happiness – and sources say it’s all thanks to a string of dates with Jennifer Aniston’s ex Justin Theroux!
Last week it was revealed the couple enjoyed a secret four-hour get-together at a tiny restaurant in New York, and now friends are saying the dates have morphed into something more serious.
Since sparks flew last month, Katie, 40, decided to bravely take the next step and invite Justin for a cosy romantic dinner at her apartment – and it’s believed the 48-year-old actor and screenwriter stayed the night!
HAPPIER THAN EVER
“One of her friends was chatting to Katie on the phone the morning after and she swears she heard Justin in the background,” spills an insider.
“She’s so happy right now. She’s like the cat that got the cream. She’s had to kiss her fair share of frogs, but in Justin she may have finally found someone who appreciates her. Even [daughter] Suri approves of him!”
It’s no secret Katie’s had her share of disastrous relationships, from her controversial marriage to Tom Cruise to a heartbreaking six-year romance with ladies’ man Jamie Foxx. But Justin couldn’t be more different.
‘Justin’s probably the funniest guy she’s ever met’
“Katie’s always liked Justin,” adds the source. “He’s a New Yorker, he loves indie movies, he’s a brilliant writer, they share a passion for directing and he’s probably the funniest guy she’s ever met. And let’s face it – Katie needs a few laughs!
“There was an instant connection when they first met on the [Hawaii] set of Tropic Thunder 12 years ago while she was married to Tom. She thought Justin was clever and brilliant, but of course she was already taken so she didn’t give Justin a second thought, but now she’s falling for him hard and fast.”
While Suri and Katie’s friends are ecstatic over her fledgling
romance, there are two people in complete shock over it – Tom, 57, and Jennifer, 50.
“Tom’s deeply upset about it but there’s nothing he can do,” reveals an insider close to the Mission: Impossible star.
“After Jamie Foxx, it’s yet another humiliation to have her step out with another one of Tom’s old buddies. He must be feeling like some kind of dating service for her!”
JEALOUS EXES
As for Justin’s ex, insiders say Jen’s still in shock.
“She just doesn’t see him with Katie at all,” says a pal. “She’s also a bit hurt he wouldn’t tell her about it before she found out through magazines. But Jen will get over it. She’s not going to let his dating life get in the way of their now-solid friendship, nor her new determination to get her career on track. Jen’s focus is work right now.”
As for the new lovers, sources say they’re “trying very badly” to take things slowly for the sake of 13-year-old Suri, but there’s definitely chemistry between them.
“They’re both so love-starved they can’t help themselves,” adds a friend. “It’s early days, and Justin respects that Katie’s priority will always be Suri, but Suri’s the one encouraging her mother. Even though she was on a sleepover when Justin stayed, Suri has met him and really likes him, but not as much as she adores Justin’s pooch Kuma. He sure knows the way to a girl’s heart!”
