CINDY’S DESPERATE INTERVENTION… TO SAVE KAIA!
Rande and Cindy step in to protect their daughter
Cindy Crawford has whisked her daughter Kaia Gerber back to their Malibu compound after a distressing scene outside the teenage model’s New York apartment last weekend.
Cindy and her husband Rande were pictured looking on edge after he had an apparent run-in with 18-year-old Kaia’s controversial boyfriend Pete Davidson. According to onlookers, Rande emerged from Kaia’s apartment suggesting to Cindy that comedian Pete, who is open about his battle with bipolar disorder, had “scratched eyes” and was “freaking out”.
The situation came just hours after Pete, 26, complained on Saturday Night Live when he dates a famous woman “the world wants to punch me in the throat”. He added, “What’d I do? If I’m the type of guy your daughter or mother is into then trust me – I’m the best case scenario.”
In the same episode of the show, Pete seemed to insinuate that he was heading for rehab. “I’m going on a little vacation – the kind of vacation where insurance pays for some of it, and they take your phone and shoelaces,” he said of his plans for the festive season.
“And you have roommates, but it still costs like $100,000.” Despite his declaration, at the timewoman’s Day went to press, he was seen going about business as usual in New York – much to Cindy, 53, and 57-year old Rande’s concern, say sources.
“Cindy and Rande were never Pete fans. He’s a well-known womaniser with deep issues and they figured him and Kaia would fizzle out. That hasn’t happened so they’ve had to step in and bring her home to LA,” says a source.
“They feel for Pete, they really do. They have everything crossed he’ll head to rehab, where he can get help. But their priority is Kaia and they’ve done well to get her out of harm’s way, given how vulnerable Pete is right now.”
For Pete – who in 2019 had also dated Kate Beckinsale and was engaged to Ariana Grande – sources say he’s particularly fragile around the holidays, and Kaia’s parents taking her away from him hasn’t helped.

“Pete’s dad died in the 9/11 attacks,” says a source. “So Christmas and New Year are always a really hard time for him, especially given his mental health issues.
“He’s been very open about his struggles. The main thing for Pete is that he loves Kaia and he misses her terribly now Cindy’s taken her back to LA. He understands he’s probably not what Cindy saw for her daughter, but they do get on amazingly well.
“He’s counting down the minutes until Kaia comes back to New York but if Cindy has anything to say about it, Kaia won’t be returning any time soon.”
