The Olympic legend was rushed to hospital after struggling to breathe
She’s known to Australians as the fiercely fit Olympic swimmer whose healthfocused lifestyle has kept her body lean well into her 50s. However, Lisa Curry shocked her fans recently after revealing she was rushed to hospital after struggling to breathe.
Taking to Instagram last week, the 57-year-old mum-of-three posted a worrying image of herself in a Melbourne hospital bed hooked up to a drip and revealed that she felt something wasn’t right after a New Year’s Day lunch with friends.
“Go home for a nana nap [and] woke up unable to breathe,” she wrote. “My throat and tongue [were] swollen and [it’s] so scary not to be able to get a proper breath.”
While the Commonwealth Games gold medal winner said she was later discharged from the hospital, she sent out a stark warning to her fans to take a break.
“We only tend to slow down when we are FORCED to. When we feel ok, we keep pushing and pushing,” she wrote. “I’m quite allergic to things in the air and plants but really have no idea why it happened? Immune system is down plus too much stress.
“My goal for the year was to slow the heck down... before I even got a chance to slow down, I ended up in... hospital.”
While the cause of the health problems are still being determined, it’s not the first time
Lisa has ended up in hospital. In 2008, she underwent surgery for myocarditis – an inflammation of the heart muscle – which could have caused a heart attack if it was not treated.
In 2015, the sports legend was forced to endure heart surgery again to fix her defibrillator, which was inserted in her chest to monitor irregular heartbeats.
Lisa also suffers from extreme hormonal imbalances and set up the Happy Healthy You brand, which specialises in products for women suffering from the condition.
