Holed up in her home with just her kids, the once vivacious star has turned into a recluse
‘They would love to see Ange enjoy herself and let loose’
Angelina Jolie has had some of the showbiz industry’s most headline-grabbing relationships, so when she abruptly split from Brad Pitt in 2016, no one expected her to remain single for long – in fact, Hollywood was waiting with bated breath to see who she would rebound with.
After all, the 45-year-old’s been married to Billy Bob Thornton, dated actress Jenny Shimizu and has been linked to the likes of Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp throughout her time at the top of the A-list.
But surprisingly it’s been four years since she’s been seen on the arm of a beau, and potential suitors are hardly lining up around her palm-tree lined block to score a date with one of the most beautiful women in the world.
“She’s pretty much a recluse,” says a source, who adds that her only companions these days are her six children, Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and 12-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
According to the insider, it’s her divorce with Brad, 57, and the ensuing custody battle that continues to drag on in the Los Angeles courts that’s wearing her down.
“It’ll take a real leap of faith for Angelina to trust her heart again,” says the source. “She really isn’t interested in interacting with people outside her immediate support system.”
With the pandemic out of control in California, the number of people in that system is dwindling and is said to be limited to just her children, her household staff and her divorce lawyers, who
are “on speed dial”. “There isn’t a day that passes that Angelina doesn’t pore over her options and consider what she needs to do to get the upper hand over Brad in their custody battle,” says the source. “It seems to be taking up more and more of their time.”
A lot of the emotional burden, it’s believed, has fallen to her eldest son Maddox, who’s home from university in South Korea because of COVID-19.
“She’s been relying on him as her right-hand man,” says the source, who adds that the other kids “require a lot of supervision... with their studies”.
TIME TO LET LOOSE
The kids are reportedly starting to feel the strain of their homebody mother, as they attempt to carve out their own social lives with other teenagers. “She’s as protective a mum as one could ever meet, but they’re smart kids who would welcome seeing Ange enjoy herself and let loose a little.”
A separate source tells Woman’s Day that her kids, despite “going through hell” amid this public and bitter divorce, would like to see her find love again.
But says the first insider, “She’s basically cut herself off into this self-imposed bubble. It’s kind of sad.”
