‘I STILL STRUGGLE AFTER LOSING TONY’

The death of her partner two years ago continues to tear the television favourite apart

-

Gogglebox star Faye Kontos has revealed she’s still finding it hard to cope without her partner Tony, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer nearly two-and-a-half years ago.

“It was so hard and it really is a struggle when you lose someone like that, and it still is a struggle to be honest,” says the 57-year-old.

Faye, who’s back on our screens in the 13th season of the Logie-winning show, says the level of grief she experienced shocked her when Tony passed in December 2018.

HARD DAYS

“Looking back now, I honestly didn’t think him dying would hit me as hard as it did because we always knew he was going to go at some point,” admits Faye, who spent 21 months caring for Tony after his diagnosis. “It was inevitable with his pancreatic cancer.”

“I actually remember thinking, ‘Don’t worry about yourself at the moment, you’ll deal with yourself later.’ I knew the time would come when it would hit me, and it did.

I just don’t think I realised how hard the days and months afterwards would be.”

But the mother-of-two says time has fortunately made her philosophical about her loss.

“It’s been more than two years now and I can look back and think that I was just fortunate enough to be in his life,” she told Foxtel magazine.

ETERNALLY GRATEFUL

“I am very grateful to have known Tony and thank the universe every day that he chose me to be his partner in the last years of his life.”

The TV funny lady says the couple managed to squeeze in a lot of life experiences during their six years living together.

“It’s like subconsciously we knew,” she says. “Most weekends we had plans for day trips or interstate and overseas holidays. It was a magical time in my life.”

And, despite her grief, Faye says she is thankful.

“What do they say? It’s better to have loved a short while than never to have loved at all,” she says.
