Young Divas REUNION!
Is the popular Aussie girl group giving it another go?
Thi hirteen years after f they h split, the Young Divas’ Emily Williams has hinted the Australian Idol supergroup could be getting the gang back together!
“I would definitely be open to it. I love all the girls, we have been through a lot together and it would be great to take a walk down memory lane and belt out some tunes!” says Emily of her bandmates Ricki-lee Coulter, Paulini Curuenavuli, Kate Dearaugo and Jessica Mauboy.
After forming in 2006, the group’s first single This Time I Know It’s For Real went straight to number two in the Aussie charts. But it wasn’t long before cracks began to show, with Ricki-lee quitting after just one tour.
NO SCANDAL
The singer, 35, tells Woman’s Day there was no scandal behind her split from the band.
“It was never a forever thing hing for me, and everyone was aware of that,” she says.
“I’d released my first album m before the Young Divas tour ur and I already had plans to start working on my second. So once we finished the tour I was straight on a plane to go overseas and write my next album.”
Emily, E il whose h latest l single, i l Ride With Me, with Geordie Shore’s Ricci G has her back in the charts, also denies rumours of in-fighting.
“We all wanted to develop our solo careers and after the time together it just felt like the next step,” says the 36-year-old of the decision to go their own ways in 2008.
“It was the right time for all of us and it has really paid off for everyone.”
That’s especially the case for Jessica, who was brought on-board to replace Ricki-lee in 2007.
“[It] was a daunting experience. I really felt the pressure p and had to hit the ground running,” Jess tells Woman’s Day.
But the 31-year-old, who is filming her first season as a coach on The Voice and recently signed a new contract with Warner Music, says she will always appreciate the opportunity. pp “I learnt so much during that period of my career career,” she says.
Pau Paulini, who most recently appe appeared on Ten’s I’m A Celebrity… Cel Get Me Out Of Here!, H isn’t as fond of her Young Y Diva days. “I can admit a now that at that time t I wasn’t being true to t myself,” says the 38-year-old. 3 “I was in this kind ki of celebrity bubble...”
However, Ricki-lee says she has no regrets.
“Whenever I whip out any of the Young Divas songs at my concerts, they go off!” she says. “People still have so much love for that album and I’m so happy I was part of it.”
KATE’S COMEBACK
As previously reported by Woman’s Day, Kate recently kicked off a career in construction, but sources say she’s getting ready for a music comeback.
“It gave me the opportunity to tour the country and do incredible things,” the 35-yearold says of being a Young Diva. “It was an amazing time for me.”
