The TV host, MC and sometime radio talkback star, best known for her hosting role on The Great Outdoors, says she feels fortunate to reach the milestone. “My dad died at 52 so I definitely live every day with as much enthusiasm and gratitude as I can,” she tells Woman’s Day. “I can’t believe I’m 50 – yes, I know it’s just a number and I don’t think I act my age!”

However, the Queenslander did notice a little twinge. “I woke up on my 50th birthday with a sore shoulder for no reason. I assume this is a gentle reminder to keep taking care of myself!” she says. “I knew it wouldn’t ‘feel’ any different but it still freaks me out that I have three adult children.”

Married to Scott Wilkie for 26 years, with twins Jack and Jessica nearly 21 and daughter Emily 19, Sofie’s actively interested in ageing well – and with a busy life as the face of National Product Review, an online consumer platform, and a host of corporate gigs and hosting events, she says making sure she listens to her body is crucial.

“I’m aiming for a long life but one where my age doesn’t outlast my health,” she says. “I eat well, a mostly plant-based diet and I practise fasting, I wear an Oura ring to track my sleep... I exercise, do F45, yoga and lots of walking and I try to spend time in nature to unwind.”

And what would she tell her 21-year-old self about turning 50? “Enjoy the ride – don’t stress about the things you can’t control. Look after yourself, stay true to who you are and trust that everything will be just fine.”
