Woman’s Day (Australia)

MY DAY MY WAY

Being active and eating well helps keep former ironwoman and television presenter Candice Warner feeling her best and in shape

-

Balancing work, three daughters and home life is no easy feat, but for bubbly Candice Warner it’s just a regular day. Between family, competing on reality television shows and media commentating, she makes sure to prioritise her health.

CANDICE, WHAT ARE YOUR WEEKENDS LIKE?

Saturday mornings will be cricket for the girls at our local park, followed by dancing. We often hit the beach in the afternoon. An ideal Sunday is a barbecue with family and friends.

HOW DO YOU STAY ACTIVE OVER A WEEK?

For me it’s all about balance. I like to go to the gym three times, plus I squeeze in two solid runs when I can. When I have a bit more time, a coastal walk really helps me to unwind.

WHAT KEEPS YOU IN BALANCE?

I am absolutely adamant about getting plenty of rest (three small girls require lots of parenting energy). I also prioritise time by myself to recharge, which I think helps me be the best mother, wife and person that I can be. My sports background has taught me a lot about food so I aim for a balanced, fuel-filled diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. But I don’t deprive myself of things I love, so chocolate and ice cream here and there is essential!

HOW DO YOU MANAGE OVERINDULGENCE?

I’m very realistic about this – staying active and eating in moderation is key for me. Starving yourself or setting unrealistic goals is not sustainable or good for your health or wellbeing. If I have had a blowout, I just refocus on healthy choices for the following days to get myself back in balance.
