Woman’s Day (Australia)

Meet Woman’s Day’s BIGGEST SUPPORTER!

Like other newsagents around the country, Danielle’s shop is the heartbeat of her community

They say if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life, and this couldn't be more true for newsagent Danielle Parkinson.

The Nambour Village News manager and owner, 40, has spent more than two decades behind the counter, selling thousands of copies of Woman’s Day and other magazines and serving her community, often with a cupcake and a smile.

So it's no surprise to learn how locals love dropping in to see Danielle, who considers her customers family. In her shop they're guaranteed a yarn about the latest Woman’s Day cover or tips on a tasty Better Homes And Gardens recipe she has whipped up to share with them.

“It doesn't really feel like work – you just feel like you're going to a second home, where you have your family members come and visit,” Danielle tells Woman’s Day from the Queensland Sunshine Coast.

“I'm always getting updates on people's lives, seeing photos of customers' grandkids, and they dote on my pup, Bella, who is my pride and joy. It really is beautiful.”

Since taking over the reins from her parents five years ago, Danielle has been busy bringing the newsagent into the 21st century, gaining thousands of fans on the shop's social media pages. Inspiring a new generation of customers, Danielle loves running online giveaways, sharing gift shop recommendations and posting snaps of her customers picking up their favourite reads.

And while technology has advanced, and magazine cover stars have changed over the years, one part of life at Nambour Village News will never change – customers becoming lifelong friends.

“There's Elaine, who's bought Woman’s Day every Monday since we opened our doors,” Danielle shares with a smile.

“June and her husband Arthur stop by while shopping each Thursday and she never misses a copy either. If I'm running out, I put one aside so she doesn't go without!”

‘Last week I got five bunches of flowers and champagne!’

And Danielle's customers repay her in very touching ways. “Last week I got five bunches of flowers and some bottles of champagne! They're all so generous!”

As for what the future holds for her, Danielle admits she couldn't imagine doing anything else. “Why would I leave when I'm having so much fun?” she chuckles. “I feel incredibly fortunate and so excited for what's to come!”
