Woman’s Day (Australia)

‘HARRY & MEGHAN LOVE MY WORK!’

-

Artist Robert Young from Making It Australia tells Woman’s Day all about swapping footy for art – and why Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are big fans of his work!

Do you ever regret giving up football for art? Which is more fulfilling?

No, I don’t regret it at all. Art has opened up so many opportunities for me and

I’ve been able to connect with people and share my culture on a deeper level.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan even came to check out your art when they came to Australia – what were they like and what did they say to you? Did they compliment your mural?

Yes! Harry and Meghan were very impressed by the mural and really liked the story and meaning behind it. Prince Harry said they should paint a mural outside Buckingham Palace.

Who’s the most famous person to have purchased your art?

Novak Djokovic, when he won the Australian Open.

Why did you want to join the cast of

Making It Australia? My little sister Tanise loves television – I knew that she

would love watching me on TV!

Which artist inspires you?

I would have to say my mum.

And your little nieces are cheering you on at home – are they excited to see Uncle Robert on TV?

Yes! They were yelling and screaming when they saw me on the ad for the first time. They were very excited.

What will you do with the $100,000 if you win?

I’d get a new work van to travel around the country and paint hidden murals for people to discover. MAKING IT AUSTRALIA airs Wednesday & Thursday, 7.30pm, 10
