BECOME YOUR OWN BARISTA
Expert coffee trainer John Kozsik shares his top three tips on how to make the perfect cup from the comfort of your own home
GET YOUR DOSAGE RIGHT
Ruin the espresso and your chances of goodtasting coffee are slim to none. Aim for extraction of 25-30ml of coffee in 25-30 seconds. If your pour is over, or under, it will often mean your coffee grind is too coarse, or too fine.
PERFECT YOUR MILK
Make sure your temperature is around 65°C (adjust to 55°C for almond, soy or oat milk). When frothing with a steam wand, a onesecond slurp will help you produce milk perfect for a flat white, a two-second slurp will produce foam for a latte and a three-second slurp is ideal for a cappuccino.
COFFEE BEANS NEED TLC TOO
Avoid oxygen making your coffee taste stale by immediately rolling up the remaining coffee tightly in the pack and securing with an elastic band or clip. Store in a dry, cool place without refrigerating. Try Lavazza’s new Tierra organic coffee range. $8, Coles es and Woolworths hs
