They like to keep themselves out of the spotlight, but that hasn’t stopped Bec and Lleyton Hewitt from reportedly splashing some serious cash on a new glitzy home on the Gold Coast.

Purchased in September for a whopping $4.305 million, the palatial Burleigh Heads property is affectionately dubbed “the most photographed home in Queensland” for its Palm Springs-inspired fittings and luxurious layout, which brings snoops from all around the country to its doorstep.

Inside, Bec, 38, and Lleyton, 40, will enjoy Italian terrazzo tiles, feature stone walls, Harbour American oak flooring and custom brass fittings that pepper each and every room, while the outdoor entertaining area, complete with a kitchen, sunken fireplace and a glassedged pool, will be sure to keep children, Mia, 15, Cruz, 12, and

Ava, who turns 11 this week, occupied. And if that isn’t enough, the property is conveniently located less than 100 metres from the famous Burleigh surf beach and the North Burleigh Surf Club, the Mowbray Club and a bevy of boutiques and cafes.

A FRESH START

The drastic sea change for the family comes as a surprise to many, particularly after the Hewitt name has almost become synonymous with metropolitan Melbourne for the past decade. But a source close to them tells Woman’s Day the family have wanted to be close to the beach for some time.

“There have been rumours for months the Hewitts have been shopping high-end properties on the Coast – but they wanted a beachfront place in the area,” says the source.

“After months of lockdown, Lleyton hated seeing his family so down – he’ll do anything to make things better for them, so this could be their ticket to happiness after two tough years.”

The spy adds that Lleyton initially had his eye on two properties, one at Mermaid Beach’s millionaire’s row, and another on Main Beach, however decided to go with The Palms as it’s family-friendly, and despite its Instagram-worthy facade, is incredibly private within its walls, so no prying eyes will be able to peek in.

“They’re also only a stone’s throw from The Paddock Bakery – a hip place that’s frequented by Hugh Jackman, and Bec will love nearby James Street and its boho vibe. She can be Burleigh’s answer to Elsa Pataky,” adds the insider.

While neighbours will no doubt be excited at the prospect that a superstar couple could be moving into the neighbourhood, the source also notes that their purchase doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll be becoming locals. “They may have bought this place to use and stay until they decide if they’re going to call the Gold Coast their new home,” says the source.

“It could also be a investment property. They’ve always had a huge property portfolio, and as their kids are getting older they would be wanting to be setting them up too for when they leave home.”
