‘I FELT STUPID & BETRAYED’
Four years after she stepped away from Today amid a cloud of secrecy, Lisa Wilkinson has opened up about her swift exit, admitting she was left “betrayed” after her attempt at securing the same pay as her co-host Karl Stefanovic saw her virtually walked from the building.
“I was standing in aisle six at Woolies holding a can of tuna,” the 61-year-old told The Project, recalling the time she received the phone call that would seal her fate at the network.
“I felt stupid and humiliated and betrayed and pretty pathetic. I think the idea was to humiliate me because I’d been in negotiations to try and close the gender pay gap,” she said.
“I didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye to the audience. I was just told, ‘That’s it.’”
While she went on to find a job at Ten and is now one of the network’s biggest and highest-paid stars, Lisa says she “was hurt” by Karl, and remains “not really in touch” with her former co-host.
