Amid a back and forth custody battle, Brad fears his little Shi is gone
Throughout the long, exhausting slog that has been Brad Pitt's five-year custody battle with Angelina Jolie, there's one child he's been fighting for in particular – daughter Shiloh.
The actor, 57, is widely reported to share an incredibly close bond with his first-born biological daughter, and even when her elder siblings turned their backs on Brad and sided with their mother, sources say Shiloh was determined to remain close with him.
“When he temporarily lost custody of the kids, Shi was hurt the most,” says a source. “She loves her dad, and he'll privately say she's his favourite. So when Brad finally won joint custody, he was overjoyed.”
However, Brad's agreement now hangs in the balance after Angelina, 46, accused him of being too close to their family court judge – and he was last week dismayed to see signs that Shiloh has begun to grow away from him.
TRANSFORMATION
The 15-year-old set tongues wagging last week when she joined her mum and siblings Maddox, 20, Zahara, 16, and 13-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, on the red carpet to mark the release of Angelina's new movie Eternals.
“Shi has often accompanied her mum to events, but this time it was different,” says a source. “She was all dolled up in a gown and makeup, which was a far cry from her usual androgynous style. If it weren't for the fact that she looks more and more like him every day, Brad would've almost believed it wasn't his daughter.”
While her change in fashion tastes may not sound like much, Brad is “deeply troubled by it”.
“This was a kid who wanted to be one of the boys her whole life. She dressed like Brad, asked him to call her John, and even told her mum she wanted to be a boy,” says a source.
“All of a sudden there's been a big transformation that Brad's completely on the outside of. He used to be so close with Shi and now she's barely speaking to him and looking completely different. He feels like he's losing her – which, of course, Angelina would be thrilled about.”
