Glow up with GLYCOLIC ACID

Yyour guide to the bbest skin ever with this complexion saviour

From brightening the skin to smoothing out uneven texture and even helping to fight signs of ageing, glycolic acid is thought to be somewhat of a magical ingredient in the skincare world. But what actually is this stuff? How does it work? And, what are the best products to try? Here’s your guide to all things glycolic acid!

What is glycolic acid?

Ever heard of alpha-hydroxy acids aka AHAS? Well, glycolic is one of those. “Glycolic acid is the strongest of the AHAS due to its small molecule size and is highly soluble in water, and a popular skincare ingredient,” says renowned Australian cosmetic physician and founder of Dr Naomi Skin, Dr Naomi Mccullum.

What can it do for my skin?

Dead outer skin cells often tend to outstay their welcome, keeping themselves glued to your complexion. “Glycolic acid works to break the bonds between the outer layer of skin cells, including dead skin cells and the next skin cell layer. This creates a peeling effect that can make the skin appear smoother and more even,” explains Dr Naomi.

Who’s it suitable for?

Pretty much everyone! “In theory it should suit all skin types and it’s one ingredient you should definitely consider adding to your skincare playbook,” says Dr Naomi.

How to add it to your skincare regimen

Ready to get your glow on? It’s important to start slowly, first using products containing a low concentration of glycolic acid. “If you’re new to chemical exfoliants or active skincare, you should work up to using it every day slowly rather than overdoing it at the beginning,” Dr Naomi recommends.
