STAYING UNITED FOR THEIR GIRLS
Their marriage captured the heart of the nation, but the couple have called it quits
In an emotionally charged message, Teigan Power confirmed news of her shock separation from her high school sweetheart and former Newcastle Knights player
Alex Mckinnon.
After five years of marriage and 12 years together, Teigan took to Instagram last week to verify a report in The Sydney Morning Herald that detailed their marriage breakdown. In her post, she urged fans to respect their privacy at this time – but maintained family will always come first.
The mum-of-three described the split as amicable and stressed that both she and Alex will remain committed to co-parenting their beautiful children, twins Audrey and Violet, one, and eldest daughter Harriet, three.
“At this time, Alex and I are navigating this period of change together privately,” she wrote. “Due to our situation being made public without our consent, we are asking for our privacy to please be respected at this time.”
Despite the sad situation, Teigen revealed the couple are concentrating on protecting their family and kids.
“We have the utmost respect for each other, and are both very grateful for the people, as well as all of the support that we have in our lives!”
Despite reportedly first calling time on their marriage in January, recent pictures of the couple celebrating their twins’ first birthday together offer an insight into their dedication to each other.
Alongside two rainbowthemed cakes, Alex, 30, and Teigan looked every bit a pair of proud parents as they celebrated their adorable tots.
FAN FAVOURITES
An NRL favourite, the secondrower’s romance with Teigan captured the hearts of footy fans and Aussies alike. Alex had proposed to his high school sweetheart from his hospital bed just days after his promising career was cut short in March 2014, when he suffered a devastating spinal cord injury during a match against Melbourne Storm. He suffered fractures to his C4 and C5 vertebrae after the dangerous tackle, which left him a quadriplegic.
Ahead of their big day, the Aberdeen-born star promised Teigan that he would rise from his wheelchair on the couple’s wedding day – and he did just that, kissing his bride.
Shortly after the couple’s eldest daughter Harriet was born in 2018, Alex confessed that he “had made peace” with the effects of the injury that changed his life forever.
