kath & kim are back!

It’s time to put on the footy franks and crack open the Tia Maria, puh-lease

It’s been 20 long years since Australia’s favourite hornbags, Kath Day-knight and Kim Craig began swanning around Fountain Lakes – but Woman’s Day can exclusively reveal the foxymorons will be making a tizzy return.

Top TV insiders reveal a brand-new Kath & Kim production is underway as negotiations play out between producers and the show’s famous cast – including comedy legends Jane Turner, Gina Riley and Magda Szubanski.

ANNOUNCEMENT SOON

The new project is set to air in 2023, with the real-life neighbours of the house used for Kath and Kim’s home, in Victoria’s Patterson Lakes, confirming there have been multiple sightings at the iconic abode that was the Day-knight family’s residence.

With crew paying visits to the famous house, “it was unimaginable neighbours could keep TV’S biggest secret under wraps much longer”, tells a source.

Insiders say production will start later this year and assure there is plenty of material to work with. This is the longest break the show has had since the series began on the ABC in 2012. Indeed, there will be plenty of laughs to be had, with Kath and Kel’s marriage entering a new phase and little Epponnee-rae now a teenager – and no doubt Sharon’s dating woes have only amplified in this app era.

The series, which has been on multiple Aussie networks, looks likely to make its return to a big streaming service. It is no secret the iconic duo have a wide overseas appeal and with streaming bringing back other celebrated cult favourites all over the world, it was only a matter of time before a Netflix or Stan swooped in and revitalised the franchise.

All of the cast, including Glenn Robbins and Peter Rowsthorn, are said to be on the same page about the new venture and feel it’s the right time to bring it back. The last time the cast and crew were together was for the Kath & Kimderella movie in 2012, which made fans laugh but failed to impress critics.

“Expect the girls to be more comfortable in the 30-minute format and the show will be very much back to basics,” teases a source, who says an official announcement is expected in May.
