THE WRONG WOMAN By JP Pomare

Australian writer JP Pomare has given us another juicy small-town read, however this one is startingly different. JP chats to Woman’s Day about his highly anticipated novel The Wrong Woman and dishes on the new TV series based on his 2019 novel In The Clearing, which is set to star Guy Pearce and Miranda Otto.

Tell us a little bit about The

Wrong Woman…

Private investigator Reid returns to his home town to inspect a suspicious car crash. The trouble is, Reid’s hardly welcome back since he fled the town over a decade ago. Reid’s investigation opens him up to a town full of secrets – rumours are swirling about the well-liked young woman who crashed the car, killing her professor husband, and the disappearance of two teenage girls.

What can readers expect from it?

Readers can expect a slightly more traditional crime story than my previous books, but still with the big twists and an ending that no one will see coming.

Your main character Reid is a private investigator. How much research did you do to create him?

I spent near endless hours scouring private investigator forums online, and read books about the PI life, but it was mostly fact-checking my intuitions. Early readers have given me feedback that Reid is their favourite character of mine, which isn’t surprising to me because he’s my favourite character I’ve ever written.

Tell us a bit about your new Disney TV series for In the Have you been on set?

Clearing.

I think readers who enjoyed In The Clearing will find the show relatively true to the source material, but with a few fresh takes to help it translate to the screen. I’ve managed to nab a cameo – who knows, this might be an opportunity to pivot into some extras work!

Are you happy with the casting?

I’m over the moon with the casting. Disney had a real clear imperative to make the show feel Australian as it’s such an iconic Australian story, so they managed to shoot everything locally, and brought home a couple of big Hollywood names like Miranda Otto and Guy Pearce. I can’t wait for people to see it! THE WRONG WOMAN Out Wednesday (Hachette,
