‘LIFE’S ABOUT TO GET BUSIER!’

Baby number two is on the way and the weather presenter is happier than ever

-

The past few months haven’t been all sunshine for 7News weather presenter Angie Asimus. The 36-year-old has just passed the first trimester in her pregnancy, and behind her ever-professional smile she has been suffering terrible morning sickness, which was compounded by a bout of COVID-19.

“I just remember sitting on the Sunrise desk going, ‘Oh my gosh, please don’t throw up on the hosts,’” Angie laughs, stroking her belly.

“In those first few months when you’re not really telling anybody, when you’re feeling so wretched… at that point, I was doing Sunrise and my 6pm news job, so it was double shifts.

“Lots of deep breaths and I got through it!”

BABY JOY

But despite this, the star is bubbling with excitement to be expecting her second child with her husband, Chris Abbott.

“We were planning to have another baby, so it was very expected, but it’s still such a joy to discover that it’s happened,” says

Angie from their home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The couple have opted to keep the new arrival’s gender a surprise this time.

“We found out for Austin at the 20-week scan, which was lovely, but this will probably be our last one, so we’re going to see what the day brings,” says Angie.

The new baby’s arrival will also, hopefully, be a family affair this time.

‘He talks about the baby in Mummy’s tummy’

“When we had Austin in hospital, there were no visitors allowed because we were in lockdown. I’m looking forward to having a more normal experience this time,” she says.

ROOM FOR ONE MORE

Little Austin, now two, bounces around the garden to the sounds of the Wiggles’ Big Red Car as Angie explains how he has been hard at work practising his new role as a big brother.

“He keeps talking about the baby in Mummy’s tummy but then other days, he says, ‘Oh, I have a baby in my tummy, too,’ so I’m not sure he completely understands,” Angie laughs.

Austin runs over to the picnic table and collects a little blueberry muffin baked by Angie’s mother-in-law Leonie, who is often on hand to help the young family.

“We went to the shops the other day and found a little pram and a baby, and he got obsessed with it. Within the first day the leg had fallen off but he took that in his stride!” she adds.

Meanwhile, Tasmanian-born Chris reflects on how the toddler has been looking after his mum while she’s been suffering with morning sickness. “He has a little doctor’s kit and he’s been there with his stethoscope fixing Mummy, making sure she’s OK,” he tells.

The couple have been married for two years. They first laid eyes on each other when Angie – who’s originally from Gundagai, NSW – was studying at the University of Sydney.

“We met at the gym – I was working there. Angie used to come in and through a mutual friend of ours, I said, ‘Who is this person?’” says Chris, who works in the golf industry.

“She was working at her aunty’s shop, and I walked in one day and asked her out.” Angie smiles at her husband. “My story is a bit different! I used to go to the gym and this guy who worked there would appear in all the same spin classes I’d go to,” she jokes.

“Oh, whatever,” Chris interjects, chuckling along.

A moment later the pair are distracted by Austin, who has decided he needs his mum for some very important two-yearold business.

“We’re going to be very, very busy in about six months’ time,” Angie says, laughing.
