As well as being one of Madonna’s better film roles, the original A League Of Their Own from 1992 told a fictionalised story of the All-american Girls Professional Baseball League, which was formed during World War II and was an important step in women’s sport. This new series revisits the premise but widens the lens to tell a less Hollywood version of the story and incorporate a more diverse cast of characters.

There’s no crying in baseball but you may shed a few tears.
