TOOTHBRUSHING

Here’s how to get them in the habit!

-

Encouraging your child to start a regular brushing routine is essential for keeping their teeth and gums healthy, but it can be easier said than done. Dental hygienist Emma Cubis from Emma Talks Teeth shares her top tips.

1. GO SHOPPING!

Like choosing a new toy, letting your child pick their toothbrush increases their chances of being motivated and interested in the process of toothbrushing as it engages feelings of excitement, ownership and curiosity.

2. ROLE PLAY WITH A FAVOURITE SOFT TOY

Using a spare toothbrush to “brush” the stuffed animal’s teeth is a fantastic way to encourage your child to do the same for themselves. When they see their toy’s teeth being cleaned, it will motivate them to do the same!

3. MUSIC & VIDEOS

There are many simple songs especially for toothbrushing that go for two minutes. This’ll make time fly and encourage cleaning for the entire time, which is incredibly important for adequate plaque removal.

4. MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO...

Parents are usually the first models children have in life, so seeing you brush your teeth is going to pique their curiosity.
