HOW I SAVE ON MY SHOP

The Masterchef star shares his tips on how to cook your way to affordable meals

- with Adam Liaw

1 READ THE RECIPE FIRST Most people often buy more than they need, wasting money and food. Check out Lilydale’s Cooking With Lily – scan the QR code on Lilydale products and find fresh recipes and tips from cooks such as me.

2 PURCHASE SEASONAL PRODUCE In-season produce is cheaper, better quality and also usually grown in Australia, which is really important.

3 MAKE EXTRA & FREEZE IT Freezing leftovers is a great way to save time and money and reduce your food waste. Always check the freezer before you go grocery shopping, as more often than not there will be something in there for dinner.

4 WASTE NOT, WANT NOT Use chicken bones and vegetable offcuts to make stock. If you don’t have enough for a batch of stock, freeze until you do. Don’t throw out leftovers – either eat, freeze or repurpose into other dishes. Bits and pieces left over from just about any meal can make really great pizza, pasta or fried rice.
