‘I WILL WIN THIS BATTLE’

Determination is key as Johnny Ruffo vows to fight and beat cancer once and for all

-

Beloved entertainer Johnny Ruffo has shared an update on his cancer battle by marking a heartbreaking milestone. “Exactly five years to the day since my diagnosis,” the 34-year-old actor wrote on Instagram on August 7.

But despite the emotional occasion, Johnny’s determination to overcome the deadly disease is still unwavering, with him adding, “Still fighting this son of a b**ch. Thanks for all the support.”

His girlfriend Tahnee Sims, who has been by his side ever since his initial diagnosis, also marked the milepost on her own account, writing that she was “in awe” of her boyfriend of seven years “every single day”. “Still a huge battle ahead but a major milestone reached that was at times uncertain. Grateful for you always,” the 28-year-old continued.

A slew of stars flooded him with well-wishes, with his Home And Away co-stars Lynne Mcgranger and Georgie Parker expressing her love to Johnny and Tahnee, while Cameron Daddo called him “a brave and inspiring brother”.

The Morning Show’s Larry Emdur told him to “Punch on and smash this!” while The Masked Singer judge Dave “Hughesy” Hughes gushed, “Your smile inspires the world legend.”

Shortly after leaving Home And Away in 2017, Johnny shocked fans when he announced that he’d been diagnosed with brain cancer.

Following the removal of a 7cm tumour in 2019, he revealed he was all clear, but in November 2020 Johnny shared the news that his cancer had returned.

“After an unexpected week of seizures and excruciating headaches it is with a heavy heart that I have to let you know I now have another huge battle ahead of me as my brain cancer has returned,” he wrote. “I will dig deep and beat this sh*t disease again.”

Since then, Johnny has kept fans updated on his fight, with regular posts on social media, and has refused to let the disease get in his way of achieving other enormous milestones in his life.

Earlier this year, he made an inspiring return to Dancing With The Stars: All Stars and has recently finished his autobiography, No Finish Line, which will be released later this month.
