THE GOVERNESS WANTS OUT!

As newcomers ruffle feathers, Anne looks elsewhere for work

-

She usually reserves her steely gaze for the contestants who go up against her, but

The Chase’s Anne Hegerty may be delivering her icy demeanour to a new cast member too, following her controversial hire.

It was recently announced that 27-year-old “Smiling Assassin” Mara Lejins would be joining the Australian cast as a quizzer alongside longtime favourites Mark “The Beast” Labbett and Brydon “The Shark” Coverdale, making her the youngest Chaser to ever star on the show.

While fans expressed their delight at the new blondehaired beauty, the show’s resident “Governess” may not be so pleased.

Just weeks before Mara’s announcement, the British genius, 64, expressed her disappointment at producers after she had learned the UK version was on the hunt for younger quizzers who “look like they could be on Love Island”.

“They’ve tried out a few 20-year-olds for The Chase as quizzers,” she told the media. “If they introduce one, we won’t get told. It will kind of be sprung on us. I guess we’ll just have to put up with it.”

The quiz veteran added she would be “more than pissed off” if she was replaced by a new addition, because “she would not be as good as me”.

Given that Anne is said to be currently in Australia filming new episodes, presumably alongside newcomer Mara, Woman’s Day can only imagine the tension in that studio!

LEAVING FOR GOOD?

But if Anne does evade being replaced it seems she might even say goodbye on her own terms after she hinted she’s ready to step away from the show as a quizzer for a career change.

Earlier this year it was announced she had signed on to star in a new British sitcom. The show, called Gammon, will feature Anne in the role of a weary housekeeper, and six episodes have already been written. Anne, who has been on The Chase for more than a decade, told the media, “Being on

The Chase is the best job I’ve ever had but I’d love to do a bit of acting.”

She even hinted that she’s not ruling out leaving for good, revealing she has dreams of heading to Tinseltown, saying she would love to star in films alongside heavyweights such as her comedy hero, 96-year-old Mel Brooks.
