LEADING SEPARATE LIVES!

Time apart has brought the couple closer together

-

It’s often when the person isn’t by your side that you suddenly realise how much you love them – and insiders say that’s the case for Bec and Lleyton Hewitt, who’ve been living increasingly separate lives over the past few years.

While Bec, 39, has been busy building a life for herself in Sydney and looking after their two daughters Mia, 16, and Ava, 11, Lleyton has been based at the couple’s Gold Coast home or jetting around the world with their son Cruz, 13, as he continues to pursue his dream tennis career.

“Bec and Lleyton have become increasingly independent since they returned to Australia a few years ago and I think it’s probably made their marriage stronger,” reveals one family friend.

“When they were in America or the Bahamas, everything revolved around Lleyton and his tennis, and I do think Bec felt a bit left behind at times, and she’s worked really hard to regain her sense of self since they came home,” reveals the insider.

SETTLING IN

After years of moving around, Bec has finally been able to put down roots and reconnect with old friends like Kyly Clarke and Kate Ritchie, who live close to her current base in Rose Bay.

While Bec previously would have always wished for Lleyton, 41, to be by her side, she’s realised lately there’s a benefit to them not living in each other’s pockets. In fact, Lleyton was even recently spotted enjoying dinner without Bec at Bondi Beach celebrity haunt Totti’s.

LIFE WITHOUT BEC

“Bec sometimes jokes that Lleyton has a ‘secret life’ but honestly she’s enjoying her new sense of freedom and confidence,” says the friend.

“She wants Lleyton to be happy and it’s no secret he’s obsessed with Cruz and helping his boy reach the top in tennis, but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t love Mia and Ava. He’s just not the sort of guy who can pretend to love dance or showbiz.

“He’s happy to let Bec take the lead when it comes to the girls because he knows he’d be hopeless at helping them with their modelling or acting. It’s just not his thing. He’s happy to watch from the sidelines.”

In fact, just last month there were rumours the couple may have renewed their wedding vows. “They just celebrated their wedding anniversary, and I think their marriage is the best it’s ever been, because they’re both now really confident in the relationship and less dependent on each other,” tells our source.

“They do lead separate lives at times, but it doesn’t have to be a negative thing. I think it speaks to the growth in their marriage, and these days they share in each other’s triumphs when it comes to the kids,” adds the insider, who admits while their marriage isn’t perfect, it’s pretty close. “It’s a marriage built on a lot of respect”.
