Stretch your way to BETTER SLEEP!

If you’re struggling to get the right number of ZZZS each night, it may be time to introduce stretching to your daily routine!

“Studies have proven stretching can improve both quality and duration of sleep,” Kayla from Stretch Studios reveals. “We get a lot of reports back from our clients about how much their sleep has improved since coming to see us.”

Kayla says one reason to stretch is that it interacts with the body’s nervous system. “Often we don’t realise when we’re holding on to tension in the body until someone says, ‘Relax your shoulders.’ Then all of a sudden you find yourself taking a deep breath, you feel your shoulders sink down, and for a brief moment you forget all about whatever it was you were thinking about before.”

If you need a few pointers on the best ways to stretch there are plenty of ways to get started – from videos on Youtube to yoga to an assisted stretching session such as those offered by Stretch Studios.

Another bonus of stretching is that it releases tension in the muscles and joints. “It also helps to flush out toxins such as lactic acid that have built up over time,” Kayla adds. “All of which takes physical stress away from the body, allowing it to better rest at night.”
