THE ONES WHO WILL MISS HER MOST
The Queen loved being a grandmother
While at times not the warmest of mums, over the years the Queen thawed out – especially when she became a grandma and great-granny to an adorable crew of next-generation Mountbatten-windsors.
Her first grandson, Peter Phillips, also made her a great-grandmother on the birth of his daughter Savannah in 2010.
While Her Majesty loves all her grandkids, it’s believed she had particularly close bonds with a select few.
“She spent the most time with Prince William of course, as an heir to the throne,
but she had a real soft spot for Prince Harry,” says a source. “No one could make her laugh like Harry did, even when he was a small child. She adored his pranks and jokes.”
In the years before her passing, the Queen “made a point of making a fuss” of her great-grandson Prince George.
“She knew Prince George will likely face challenges in his path to the throne that she’s never even considered,” says a source. “She wanted to ensure George has nothing but fond memories of her as a guiding force as he grew older.”
While she only met Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Cambridge’s kids a few times – most recently at her Platinum Jubilee celebrations – insiders believe she was touched when they called their daughter Lilibet in honour of the Queen’s nickname.
Most recently, Princess Beatrice and her husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi also invoked Her Majesty when they named their firstborn daughter Sienna Elizabeth.
