CHARLES’ CUTTHROAT DECISION
Among Charles’ first major acts as King has been to investigate changing the laws surrounding the Counsellors of State – which comprises of princes William, Harry and Andrew, and on the Queen’s death now includes his wife Queen Consort Camilla and Princess Beatrice.
It’s long been reported that Charles saw “no point” in having his “disgraced” brother Andrew or recent royal defector Harry in the line-up, which allows the four eldest adults in the line of succession plus the sovereign’s spouse to make decisions should the monarch find themselves unable to do the job.
“Charles would much rather include working royals including Princess Anne and Princess Catherine. But first he’d have to amend the law surrounding it, which he’s working on,” says an insider.
Meanwhile, it’s believed Charles, as sovereign, will now allow his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-windsor – Harry and Meghan’s children – to be known as prince and princess, but he won’t be styling them as HRHS.
“Their parents aren’t allowed to use their HRHS as non-working royals, so Charles sees no reason as to why their children should be,” says the source. “Charles is being ruthless, but you must remember he’s had a lot of time to think about this.”
