Choose shoes with a firm heel counter (the back part of the shoe that sits against your heel). It should be firm so that you can’t easily push it down.

Another thing to look for is a firm midsole. “An easy way to test this is to try and fold the shoe in half – if you can’t, that is a good sign,” says Kyle. Finally, opt for a shoe with sturdy fastenings. “You want a shoe that either has laces or velcro closings so that you can adjust how firm it is on your feet,” Kyle explains.
