QUEEN MARGRETHE’S EMOTIONAL GOODBYE
Noble families from around the world descended into London to attend the Queen’s funeral, including some of her oldest friends.
Denmark’s Queen Margrethe – who was Elizabeth’s third cousin, and delayed her own Golden Jubilee celebrations out of respect for her beloved close friend – was visibly moved during the Westminster Abbey service, wiping tears from her face.
The 82-year-old leaned on her son Prince Frederik, who attended as her plus one. Margrethe’s husband Prince Henrik died in 2018. However, their attendance wasn’t without controversy – Fred’s wife, Aussie-born Princess Mary was uninvited when it was revealed the British Foreign Office was only permitting one additional guest for Margrethe.
Meanwhile, the Swedish, Norwegian, Belgian and Dutch royal contingent could be seen in front-row pews, along with Monaco’s Prince Albert and Princess Charlene.
