Melanie says she was “frozen in place” when she was called out for her weight just as the band was taking off. “I felt sick. I turned to the other girls, who were looking anywhere but me,” she wrote. “I was mortified. My whole faced burned... no one said a word,” she recalled of being shamed in front of her bandmates. Mel explains that Victoria went on to confess that the group’s financier had also made crude comments about her gaining weight. Mel says it led to self-doubt, and she recalls lying awake at night stressing about her image.
