It was through a lawyer that the girls found out Geri was leaving due to depression and differences within the group in 1998 – and needless to say, it didn’t go down well!

“We weren’t taking it entirely seriously, but we were a little unnerved that the lawyer had been in touch,” explains Mel. “But Geri had said this before and didn’t mean it. We took it in turns trying to ring her.” When she didn’t answer, Mel says it finally “sunk in”.
