‘We’re keeping everyone laughing’

-

Being stranded in a flooded house for three days would be anyone’s worst nightmare but Sam and Rachel Cooper decided it was the perfect excuse to put a smile on their neighbours’ faces.

“I’m happy to be the village idiot if it makes people happy,” Sam, 28, tells Woman’s Day from Shepparton, Victoria.

The parents-of-four performed and uploaded a series of online skits that have received thousands of views. There have been rooftop calls for beer, nudie runs on the 4x4, Sam fishing in his “front garden” and clips of him posing as a real estate agent to sell their home with “beautiful riverfront views”.

“We’ve had people say they love our posts

– even if their houses are inundated [with water],” says Rachel, 36.

As we chat, Sam has just come back from delivering milk to his stranded neighbours who had run out of supplies. It’s been a long day for them after a late night of sandbagging nearby driveways.

“No one’s dropped the beer off yet,” Sam laughs.
