AMANDA KNOX... BACK WITH HER LOVER!
They spent the anniversary of Meredith Kercher’s death together in Italy
Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito have reunited in Italy, posing arm in arm 15 years after their friend Meredith Kercher was murdered.
The pair were originally accused of carrying out the brutal attack on the 21-year-old British university student who was found dead on November 2, 2007, in the Perugian apartment she was sharing with Amanda.
Four days later, Amanda, now 35, and Raffaele, 38, were arrested and in 2009 convicted of her murder. An appeal later cleared and freed them, but Italy’s highest court overturned this verdict in 2014 when prosecutors argued that evidence had been omitted from the appeal and a new trial upheld the original convictions, only for them to be annulled again in 2015.
Raffaele, now a software engineer living in Milan, told the Mirror that his reunion with Amanda in the central Italian town of Gubbio was “the nicest”.
“We had been planning to go there on the day Meredith’s body was found,” he told the UK newspaper. “It was bittersweet to go back as we were supposed to go there in such different circumstances.”
Amanda, now a journalist and podcaster, was visiting with her baby daughter Eureka and husband Christopher and hadn’t seen Raffaele for 10 years before their reunion, although they’ve kept in touch.
Rudy Guede, who was 23 at the time of Meredith’s death, was also convicted of the shocking killing but was released in 2021 after serving 13 years of his 16-year prison term. He has recently denied murdering Meredith.
LINGERING DOUBTS REMAIN
In June, Amanda wrote that she is still affected by online trolls despite her innocence in an essay for New Thinking.
“After four years in prison and eight years on trial, I was definitively acquitted [but] I remained a magnet for hate,” she wrote. “As I tried to rebuild a semblance of a normal life back home, the threats and harassment continued.”
In 2017, Meredith’s sister Stephanie admitted that the “pain and helplessness [of her death] never ceases”.
Amanda, meanwhile, has been accused of insensitivity for posting images of herself on social media in her former prison uniform and seemingly making light of Meredith’s death in other posts.
