Woman’s Day (Australia)

THE CORRS ‘Australia always leaves us breathless’

Violinist Sharon Corr, 52, spills on why we hold a special place in the band’s hearts, and they can’t wait to return later this month

-

Just weeks out from their return, The Corrs’ Sharon Corr dishes to Woman’s Day on what Aussie fans can expect for their exclusive show, what’s on their rider and what song she particularly doesn’t like to play any more!

We can’t believe it’s been 21 years since you last toured here. How does it feel returning to perform as a band again?

It’s super exciting! I have been in Australia in the intervening years, but to come back with The Corrs will be special! Australia was the first place for us that really embraced our music, so to start again there feels like a beautiful full-circle moment.

You’ve worked alongside your siblings for decades. Do you guys still bicker while out on the road?

Ha! Well, we are family – all families are pros at bickering - have an immense bond musically which is what has kept us together and going strong.

We’re curious to know what’s on The Corrs’ tour rider – do any of you have strange requests?

No feathers – I’m allergic. Not very rock’n’roll I know. Coffee, nibbles, water and of course some tasty alcoholic beverages for after the shows!

You last came to Australia for the In Blue and Forgiven, Not Forgotten world tours. What are some of your fondest memories from your time here?

Australia is such a diverse place, you really feel you have crossed the world and immersed yourself in somewhere utterly new. I remember the cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Newcastle – they’re all so different. The people feel like you’ve come home – we are so alike. The concerts felt immense and steeped with atmosphere. Breathless

is such a timeless classic. How does it feel to know people still love listening to it today? Do you still love it or are you sick of it?

Breathless is a fun track. I love the second we begin it and the whole audience always responds singing along.

You’ll be performing alongside another iconic band, Wet Wet Wet. Are you friends with the guys, or will this be the first time hanging out?

It will be the first time and it will be great to meet fellow

musicians, hang out and enjoy the buzz together.

Apart from your shows, do you have any plans while you’re here?

Going have to be some great dinners! The food is incredible in Australia. Being at Sydney Harbour soaking in the views, the Opera House and the atmosphere!

What’s your favourite Australian food?

All of it! Seafood rocks, though!

What’s your favourite song to perform, and why?

I have a few but Runaway always feels timeless – it was our first release worldwide and holds a very special place in our hearts.

Do you have a least favourite or one that surprised you as a hit?

The Right Time wouldn’t be top of my faves but I appreciate people loved it.

Your last album, Jupiter

Calling, came out in 2017. Can we expect new Corrs music soon?

You never know! We are a musical family, so the chances are high.

THE CORRS: ONE NIGHT ONLY Hope Estate, Hunter Valley, NSW on Saturday, November 26. Tickets: oneworldentertainment. com.au
