An egg-cellent idea!

-

Back in January 2020, 12-year-old Fletcher Mcculloch decided to sell two dozen surplus eggs laid by the family’s pet hens and his business, Fletcher’s Poultry, was born.

“I thought I’d make some pocket money and sell the extra eggs,” says Fletcher, who lives at Turners Beach, Tasmania. “They went in no time, and that’s when I hatched a plan!” he tells Woman’s Day.

Dad Damien lent him some money and Fletcher bought 10 laying hens and then expanded the business model, buying 50 young hens to raise and peddle to families as pets.

He now has a busy schedule caring for his clutch plus front-of-house duties – business admin, and catching chooks when customers come for collection and boxing up eggs to sell from a stand at the front of their home. But that’s just the beginning.

“I want to own a farm one day with livestock and of course chooks,” says Fletcher.
