Not everyone who lives on the street where Neighbours was filmed is overjoyed at the reboot, with house owners at loggerheads over the location’s filming future.
Six owners recently attempted to get Pin Oak Court heritage listed but the local council refused, despite the National Trust indicating it would strongly support heritage protection, saying the “quintessential suburban cul-de-sac” was worth preserving.
One long-time resident, known only as Bill, told
The Age he strongly opposed it, saying it would mean the street would continue to attract unruly visitors, who have in the past urinated on his lawn, run around naked and stolen plants and mail.
He compared living in the street that became famous as Ramsay St in Neighbours to serving a 37-year jail sentence, despite producers paying residents $33,000 to $50,000 a year to allow their facades to be filmed.
