LYNNE MCGRANGER ‘IT’S TIME FOR ME TO LEAVE’

Summer Bay’s most famous resident reveals she’s going to go out ‘with a bang!’

-

Just days after three cast members announced they were leaving Home And Away, one of its most beloved and longstanding stars has revealed her plans to step away from Summer Bay.

Lynne Mcgranger, who has played Irene Roberts for more than three decades and is the show’s longest-serving female cast member, surprised fans last week when she revealed her “dramatic” vision for when she finally leaves the show.

“I want to get lost at sea, or I want to die a really sad, lengthy death with everyone weeping and wailing around me,” she told New Zealand website Stuff. “I want to go with the biggest bang, the most dramatic exit.”

Lynne then joked that she could even do a double bluff for viewers.

“Irene could get lost at sea and they never find the body, have the memorial service and everything and then she walks back into town,” she suggested.

But viewers of the show can rest easy with the knowledge that Lynne, who turned 70 in January, has no concrete plans to depart the soap any time soon. Over the years she’s taken sabbaticals to star in theatre productions, explaining that “getting bored easily” was the main reason why she liked to take time away from the show.

“I’m one of those people who needs a bit of a change-up and something different,” Lynne said in 2017. “I love being somewhere new, meeting people and making new friends.”

Just last year, Home And Away castmate Ada Nicodemou told Woman’s Day that if her best friend Lynne were to leave, she’d find it very “strange” to stay on without her.

“We’ve become very reliant on each other being there,” Ada said. “I’m not sure who’s going to go first.”
