‘I HAVE TO STAND BY MY SON’

The Hewitts are set to face their biggest test yet

-

When Aussie tennis ace Lleyton Hewitt and his talented teen son Cruz were spotted at a Queensland airport last week, it was clear they had plenty on their minds.

Looking tense and tired, the pair waded through the crowds before returning to their Burleigh Heads home.

FAMILY PRESSURE

As Cruz works hard to follow his double grand slam father to tennis glory, sources say it is now only a matter of time before Lleyton’s wife, former actress Bec Hewitt, 40, calls a family crisis meeting to make sure their talented teen doesn’t crash and burn in his quest to become world No. 1 just like his famous dad.

“Cruz has suddenly shot up in height and very much matured, but he’s still just a kid who is nding his way on the court,” the source reveals to Woman’s Day, noting that Lleyton, 43, has promised his son that despite the rigorous training requirements ahead, he will always support him.

“As much as his dad and mum shower him with support, he’s really feeling the pressure being the o spring of one of the country’s most loved soap stars and one of our most revered sporting champions – that’s a lot for a 15-year-old who is nding his place in the world.”

With everything on the line, it now remains to be seen if this is the year for young Cruz to step up. Close insiders insist 2024 is the year he is going to have to push hard to qualify and secure wildcards in several international competitions, including the US Junior championships.

“He knows his dad won the US Open at 19, so Cruz will be setting that as one of his goals,” the source explains.

“is is a critical time in his career and he has to stop comparing himself to his dad, which is something Bec has worked hard to drive home,” the insider continues.
