Growing up with a famous Tinseltown mum wasn’t always easy for Oliver

She’s the Hollywood sweetheart with the reputation of being one of the industry’s bubbliest stars. But Goldie Hawn’s son Oliver Hudson’s recent candid comments about his famous mum have threatened to damage her golden image.

“My mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma about, interestingly enough, because she was my primary caregiver and I was with her all of the time, so I felt unprotected at times,” Oliver shared on his and actress sister Kate’s Sibling Revelry podcast, while discussing a recent course he’d done “unpacking the patterns that were put upon you from your parents and step-parents”.

HARD TIMES

“She would be working,” he added of the now-78-year-old. “She had new boyfriends that I didn’t really like. She would be living her life and she was an amazing mother.

This is my own perception as a child who didn’t have a dad and needed her to be there and she just wasn’t sometimes and she came out far more than even my dad who wasn’t there.”

The 47-year-old actor – who was largely raised by Goldie and her longtime partner Kurt Russell – revealed he had completed a Ho man Institute course to understand his trauma. He initially thought the process would focus on his relationship with his father Bill Hudson, 74, who he was estranged from for many years.

“He just was never there,” Oliver once claimed of the musician, who split from Goldie in 1980 and is also the dad of Kate, 44.

e pair reconnected in 2018, and Oliver admits the course helped him work through those issues too.

“The forgiveness of my father was huge because his dad left him when he was ve years old,” says the And Just Like at star. “My dad didn’t do that exactly, but he bailed, you know, so I can’t always help but think when we’re parenting, like what am I imprinting upon [my kids].

“It’s an incredible week of enlightenment on who your parents were and are. e forgiveness and compassion you have for them at the end of this process is unbelievable. en you realise they’re only repeating the sh*t they went through with their parents.”

HAPPY FAMILIES

Despite their dysfunction, father-of-three Oliver says the family are in a good place these days.

“My parents are amazing grandparents,” he says of Kurt, 73, and Goldie. “We’re a very tight family. We all live very close to each other.”

And Kate has labelled the First Wives Club star “the most fun, beautiful and inspiring mother”.
