Matt Little spills on his return for the soap’s wedding of the decade
Ten years after first appearing on Home And Away as Leah Patterson’s (Ada Nicodemou) son VJ, the now grown-up Matt Little returns to the bay this week in order to walk his TV mum down the aisle to marry Justin Morgan (James Stewart). Here, Matt, 31, opens up about his return to the soap, his special connection with Ada and hints at a possible full-time return.
It’s been 10 years since you first appeared on Home And Away. How does it feel to be returning?
Now I feel old. I won’t lie, it was tricky to navigate the nostalgia. But that quickly dissipated. I’m grateful to be part of the Home And Away lineage, and this was an absolute joy.
How did it feel to work with your on-screen mum Ada again?
Stomach-cramping laughter – Ada is a lot of fun to work with. She is also one of the most incredible people I have ever met, filled with so many qualities to be admired.
Had you kept in touch with her since leaving the show?
For sure – you don’t want to lose a friendship like that.
Was it emotional seeing all the cast again?
Yes, it was emotional working with everyone again. It was difficult to keep the memories from flooding back, and it was a little sad to let go again.
Was it easy to slip back into the character of VJ?
For this, absolutely. The story is about Ada and Jimmy, their love and their journey to get to this place. So, I think it was easy slipping into a character that was primarily there to support that.
What did you miss the most about being on the show?
I miss the people, for sure. I also miss the challenges of particular storylines, and performances. It can really test, with the speed and the way that you’re pushed outside of your comfort zone sometimes. Plus, you get to work with so many different people.

Would you ever return in a full-time capacity to Summer Bay?
I would love to return. I know that there’s still a lot that I would like to explore in this world.
