SCORE A D+
Good news for the one in five Aussies with irritable bowel syndrome: popping a vitamin D supplement may help ease symptoms. A team at the UK’S University of Sheffield reviewed research on IBS and the vitamin, and found many people with the condition were D-deficient. The supps were also linked with better quality of life and improvement in symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhoea. While scientists admit more research is needed, lead study author Dr Bernard Corfe says, “It’s evident from the findings that all people with IBS should have their vitamin D levels tested and a large majority of them would benefit from supplements.” Book in with your doc for a blood test, stat!
