A Mighty Achievement

Yarrawonga Chronicle - - Classies -

Yarrawonga Windsurfing Club member, 6 year old Paxton Poll, completed a solo crossing of Lake Mulwala recently.

He sailed from the Yarrawonga Yacht Club to the Mulwala Ski Club and can claim to be the youngest to do so.

A mighty achievement for one so young.

The pennant season is done and dusted, and club championship events are almost finished.

Club championships:

The nominated mixed pairs have been completed with some great matches played; the winners were Peter Humphreys and Nola Mongor, with runners up Doug Chessum and Bev Norwood.

The B Singles championship early rounds have been completed, unfortunately the Semifinals were postponed after a few ends due to rain, they will be completed beginning 9.30 on Good Friday.

Vale Pat Talbot,

It was with sadness we learnt of the passing of Pat who is the wife of member Paul Talbot, our condolences go out to Paul and his family.

YMGCR Bowls Our monthly 2 bowls triples were played on a beautiful autumn Wednesday, with 24 teams doing combat on our fantastic greens.

We had four 4 game winners, the team from Barooga of Ray Emerson, Stuart Ralph and the old champ Gerald Rothe had 55 shots up.

We would like to thank our sponsors, the guys from the Cumberoona, so if you want a good trip on the lake, give them a call.

Thursday had 12 ladies take to our greens, the winners were Lil Borwick and Sue Evans, runners up were Marie Whitehead and Barb Verbunt and the jackpot failed to go off.

Friday Bowls were cancelled due to the lack of numbers, let’s hope we start getting numbers back now that pennant has finished, we all need to support our club, so put your name down.

On Saturday we had 14 teams play the first two rounds of the mixed pairs, the semi-finals will be played during the week and the Final will be played on Thursday 29 at 10.00.

The semi-finals will be contested by Garry and Claire Sanders against Laureen Smith and Greg Green, in the other final the giant killers of Mal Beer and Robyn Moore who beat one of the favourite combinations of Anne Miles and Peter Velardo, will play two experience campaigners in Peter Bellis and Barb Verbunt.

Well done to everybody who played and good luck to the remaining teams.

Last week Anne Miles represented Victoria against the strong NSW team at Whittlesea, unfortunately the Vic’s come up short but Anne was voted best female bowler for Victoria.

With that performance she has now been selected for Victoria in the Australian Sides Champions which will be played in Darwin in May.

A bit of housekeeping, Belmont BC will once again be visiting us for their annual game, so if you want a game and lunch please put your name on the list on the notice board, the game will be on April 17 and start at 10 am.

This year we are trying something different by having our Presentation on Saturday, April 28 we will have a game of bowls followed by afternoon tea, if you have won a championship could you please make an effort to attend.

There will be a list for the catering.
