Not too many towns can boast having one of their own competing in an Olympic or Commonwealth Games.

Next week Mulwala is fortunate to have gun shooter James Willett competing at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. James will shoot for gold in the double trap on April 11 after being selected in a 28-member Australian side.

The talented 22 year old has finished a gallant fifth place at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, shot an Olympic record at the same Olympics, been named Shooting Australia’s Male Athlete of the Year, won numerous ISSF Double Trap Championships and has been ranked number one in the world in double trap shooting. He credits his successes to the unwavering support he receives from friends and family, home town sponsors and community support as well as the ability to train on his custom built shooting range at the family farm.

James is looking forward to competing on ‘home soil’ and will have family and friends around him on the Gold Coast. Like many athletes who have reached the pinnacle of their sport, James has sacrificed an enormous amount to be in a position to compete at the Commonwealth Games. We now wish him and his family the very best as he represents our great sporting community on the Gold Coast.
