AFL NEB FEMALE FOOTBALL
In a hard-fought game against the Lavington Panthers, the Yarrawonga Under 16s were defeated by 2 goals in windy conditions at the JC Lowe Oval.
The game was marred by 2 early injuries. Both Annie Robilliard and newcomer Charlotte Donovan came off early in the first quarter and the girls were up against it.
Undermanned, the young Pigeons fought for every possession and never gave up.
Coach Roger Robilliard tried to rally his troops but unfortunately the task was too great.
All players tried valiantly only to come up just short at the final siren.
Our Under 16s are desperately looking for new players.
Training is on a Monday and Wednesday and if any girl is interested, come down and have a go, you’ll love it.
Training starts at 6pm.
Best Players: Tayla Sampson, Evita Williams, Ella Jones, Erica Montgomery and Zali Peters.
The Women’s side came up against a highly fancied Lavington side and the game showed glimpses of class from both sides in a back and forth game, not only on the scoreboard but on the ground.
Sexton, Phibbs, Giggins and Bourke were outstanding all day and they had great support from Freeman and Nunn around the ground.
Langford was great in the forward line and for the most our defence was strong.
Unfortunately one Lavington forward was the difference, kicking 5 goals.
Final scores: Yarra 4 .5. 29 def by Lavington 8.5. 53
Best: Molly Giggins - MDMK Glass and Aluminium
Courtney Sexton - Yarrawonga Hotel Chelsea Marks - Sunrunners
Olivia Elliott - B.E.Wear
