Yar­ra­wonga 38 de­feated by Lav­ing­ton 54

This was al­ways go­ing to be a tough game to win, top placed Lav­ing­ton have had great form this year.

The first half saw the Pi­geons push them all the way.

The Tyrell sis­ters com­bined in goals with Indi F but were not quite as ac­cu­rate as the Lavi goalers with the Pi­geons trail­ing by 4 at half time.

With Kait­lyn away, Lily Sharp stepped into WD and com­bined well with tenacious de­fend­ers Mal and An­nalise.

Caity O also played a great game as she ran tire­lessly all day and didn’t give up.

Tilly kept chas­ing and led beau­ti­fully, but it wasn’t to be.

The last quar­ter was the Pi­geons worst, only scor­ing 4 goals to Lav­ing­tons 16.

The girls have taken away a few things to work on, but ul­ti­mately know they can step up to the level re­quired in the next few weeks.

Brid­get C and Ellie D moved well and shot con­sis­tently.

Mid-courters Ebony W, Laura D, Jackie F were strong and fast and got nu­mer­ous turnovers.

Lav­ing­ton came back in the third quar­ter outscor­ing the Pi­geons by a goal, how­ever de­fend­ers Lau­ren M, Laura Z and Jayanna S were con­sis­tent and kept the Lav­ing­ton goalers at bay lim­it­ing goal at­tempts and en­abling Yar­ra­wonga to push out their lead in the fourth quar­ter.

Yar­ra­wonga were hun­gry though for top spot and didn’t want to share it with Lav­ing­ton. The girls dug deep and had a great fourth quar­ter to come out ul­ti­mate win­ners by 4 points.

Ebony Wood­burn was fan­tas­tic in the mid court earn­ing her­self the coache’s pick.
