A Grade

Yarrawonga Chronicle - - Classies -

Yarrawonga 34 defeated Wodonga Raiders 24.

A grade battled out a very physical tight game against Raiders on the weekend, having a win and moving to third spot on the ladder, giving the Pigeons the double chance for the finals race.

The girls were off to a great start with lots of turnovers in defence from Annalise Grinter.

Mal Nankervis combined well with Anna and was able to run all day and gave fantastic drive out of defence.

Kaitlyn Cummins level head and experience and her ability to read down court play caused lots of errors from the Raiders midcourt.

The midcourt line-up of Tilly Kennedy, Caitlin O’Dwyer and Indi Frauenfelder used their speed and skill to out run a tall line-up, their precision passing opened up the attack end.

Indi and Ange Tyrell posted some accurate goaling before Eliza York was brought on at quarter time. Eliza added a focal point in the ring and stood tall and shot beautifully, really stepping up after her game in the under 16s.

Indi and Ange used their speed to expose Eliza under the post, with all combinations looking great heading into finals.

Goals: Eliza York 12, Bridget Cassar, Ange Tyrell 8, Indi Fraenfelder 5.

Best: Kaitlyn Cummins & Mal Nankervis.

A couple of changes saw the girls up by 1 at half time followed by a strong third quarter which increased the lead to 10 goals.

Some of the players struggled with the heat to run out the final quarter but the girls still managed a strong win, Yarrawonga 48 def Raiders 42.

Goals: Bridget Cassar 24, Ellie Dickens 20, Laura Davis 4.

Best players: Jayanna Sharp and Laura Davis.
